Job opportunities
So I recently began job hunting again since my job now SUCKS - and I actually had my first interview today to officially begin this search....and here's how it all happened.
So I had looked on craigslist, you know, just to get an idea of what is out there. And it's really difficult to find things in Burbank since everyone wants to work and live in Burbank. But I found an add for a place called "NYPD Pizza", a place opening downtown, who was recruiting for every position. So I figured, how perfect! A pizza place! I know how to do that!
I emailed the guy giving him a breif description of my experience, making sure to include those 4 years at the good ole Pizza hut.
Right away I got a reply asking for my resume. I was not expecting this as I'm sure he got tons of replies. And I did not reply right away because my resume is not on disk or anything so I'd have to totally retype it all. I got another email the day after begging me to send my resume. I was leaving for camping that day and boy did I need a vacation, so I did not reply, thinking this was a very sketchy start to a new workplace.
So, I went camping and thought nothing of it, but sure enough, the night we get back, there is a message from him on my voice mail! He wanted to interview me and see if I was right for a "pizza maker" position....lol. All I want is a server position. So I call him back this morning and apologize for not getting back to him sooner as I was on vacation. I told him I have the day off and if he wanted an interview it should be today since my work schedule is busy for the rest of the week.
So, we decide to meet at a little coffee shop (not only because the place isn't open yet, but also because this is a weird trend in LA that I cannot figure out) at 2pm for an interview. I show up about an hour early so I can get lunch and fill out my aplication.
So he shows up and right away I give him my unfinished resume and my application that OBVIOUSLY states that I prefer a server position.
He asks me how much pizza making experience and I honestly tell him that it was like 10 years ago at pizza hut and I haven't really made any since.
After me saying this, he asks me if I would be interested in the position that would pay $10hr, maybe more, and I of course say yes, I am open to new things and learning new things.
He then states that he would need a definite committment from me since he would have to fork out thousands of dollars to SEND ME TO ORLANDO, FL TO TRAIN FOR 4 WEEKS!!!!
Uh, I said, "I appreciate the offer, but I cannot guarentee that I want this to be my career. It seems alot for me to commit for a year, and I wouldn't want you to waste your time and money"
(note - a server position still pays more)
So he told me he appreciates my honesty and he's going to keep my resume on file and when they get closer to opening he will "definitely give me a call".
I was tempted to say yes to the cook position, but I guess my gut feeling thought otherwise. So whoever reads this PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for this server position!!!!!!! It's like striking GOLD to get that kindof a job out here, so PLEASE keep me in your thoughts and prayers!!!!!!!
